Field Experience Description

October of 2021 was the beginning of my logging of hours of coaching. I serve in ministry at my church which allows me to have conversations and coaching opportunities of all different kinds. I have coached people in their marriage, helping couples identify areas they can improve communication in order to establish connection. I have coached youth that are struggling in their walks with the Lord, helping them overcome fear and shame to be who God has created them to be. I have coached adults struggling with parenting, their job, or with issues centered around pride, addiction, and parenting.

I also have the unique opportunity to coach first responders in Iowa and the challenges that come with the job and specifically marriage. My wife and I talk to new police recruits at law enforcement academies across Iowa to give them tools to perservere in their marriage in such a challenging career field. Dr. Gary and Barb Rosberg have been instrumental in helping both my wife and I grow in our marriage and our coaching.

Instructions

Please define/describe your thoughts and beliefs on the following questions.

Who is Jesus Christ to you?

My Lord and Savior. My friend, my guide, and the cornerstone of my faith.

How does a person become Christian?

Surrender their life to Jesus Christ, admit they are a sinner, acknowledge Jesus' work on the cross and repent of their sin.

Describe your beliefs about the Bible:

Written by the Holy Spirit through man. Absolute truth, inerrent words of God that are timeless and do not change.

Describe your beliefs about the Holy Spirit:

The Holy Spirit is a part of the triune God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit indwells inside of believers of Jesus Christ, He enters them the moment of regeneration. He never leaves us, even when we sin or fall short of God's standards. He empowers believers with gifts to advance His Kindgom. He also bears fruit through us that we get to share with others.

Briefly describe your personal faith testimony, your spiritual journey, and current walk with Christ:

I believe I surrendered my life to Christ at a young age, yet, I did not have a family that talked about Jesus or even went to church. I got plugged in to youth and children's programs at church at a young age. I walked away from Jesus during college and lived a life full of sin and later shame/condemnation. I met my wife and she made me go to church in 2007. It was until 2012 when I went through a class at my church that I caugh on fire for the Lord. He softened my heart, helped me start a Christ centered non-profit for addicts, and is now helping me impact others. I serve in ministry at our church after he ended my 17 year law enforcement career through a lung disease. I am now taking pastoral classes to become commissioned as a pastor for our church. It is crazy to think that in a matter of 11 years that God would take me from barely believing to teaching/preaching His word and ministering to others through biblical truth.

Describe your Life Coaching practice/ministry and how you incorporate biblical principles, as well as spiritual practices and disciplines in your coaching activities (e.g., prayer, the use of Scripture, meditation, worship, solitude, etc.)

Coaching at church and in ministry, it's essential and easy to incorporate prayer and biblical truth into the coaching. The fact is, my life was changed because of what God did. He used his word to change me. Through my experiences, I am able to share with others about God and His word. In July of 2023 my wife and I will be leading a Marriage class at our church based off of Dr. Gary and Barb Rosberg's book 6 Secrets to a Lasting Love. Scripture and prayer is incorporated throughout this class we are going to teach.

Coaching through Impact Iowa's Heroes when we minister to first responder and military couples has proven to be a bit more challenging. Military rules and regulations tends to restrict what we can teach and/or say. However, we have found ways to insert testimony, biblical truth, and the gospel message into our coaching.
