Instructions

Please define/describe your thoughts and beliefs on the following questions.

Who is Jesus Christ to you?

He is the Son of God who came and once lived among us, died on the cross for our sins. He was obedient to the Father, Our God to submit himself at the cross for our sins. He is one person of the Trinity, the triune God. We know Him as the Son of God but He prefers to be known as Son of Man. He rose again on the 3rd day to show that he is truly the Son of God who came as man in the flesh, although He knew no sins yet to took our sins on the cross.

As a born again Christian, our desires are to become more Christ-like. We look towards to His coming again, when we can see the new heavens and new earth.

How does a person become Christian?

One can only be born again Christian, through faith alone, in the redemptive work of Christ dyIng for us on the cross, to cleanse our sins.
It is the grace of God, received as a gift, not of works, lest any man should boast.

Describe your beliefs about the Bible:

The Bible is the final authority to our Christian beliefs and the manner of life that we should pursue.
It is inspired by God and should be studied diligently so that we can understand God’s plan for man and live out a manner of life towards Christ-likeness.

The Bible is living and active, sharper than any 2 edged sword, possible to cut into the inner being of man to discern the thoughts and intentions of the heart of man.

It is sufficient for us to deal with our life situations in our lives. It is a lamp unto our feet and a light to our path (of life).

Describe your beliefs about the Holy Spirit:

The Holy Spirit is a helper and comforter as Christ had promised to us, before His departure. He is given to help us grow to be more Christ-like. He provides us the power to witness for Christ. He illuminates our minds to understand the scriptures. He guides us and reminds us of the sins of our flesh. He can be grieved if we sin against Christ. He helps us in our sanctification journey. He provides us the strength to live a God fearing and God honoring life. He reminds us of God’s love that has been poured out into our hearts when trials come through our paths. Through the Holy Spirit, we become new, the old has passed away. We are regenerated into a new life through the Holy Spirit. We are assured of the eternal hope becos the Holy Spirit quickens us. We are sealed with the Holy Spirit when we first place our dependence on our Lord Jesus Christ as our savior. We are filled with the Holy Spirit when we yield to the control, built up through His Word.

Briefly describe your personal faith testimony, your spiritual journey, and current walk with Christ:

I was saved when I was about 28 years old. I was convicted of my sins and knowing that if I continue in my old life, the only path was towards eternal death. I had vividly remembered that I need a savior in my life and there was nothing good in me that could interest God. But he was full of grace and I realized that I had to come to repentance and acceptance of Christ into my life. Since then, me and my family have walked closely with the Lord. In the early years of our Christian walk, we were witnessing to strangers in parks and malls in Singapore to share the good news and love of Christ to those that are outside the Kingdom of God. I am now an Elder in my local church ( Gospel Light Christian Church, Singapore for about 5 years) and has been serving the Youth ministry supporting the Youth Pastor for close to 10 years together with my wife, Helen. My wife and myself work with youths and many were from dysfunctional homes and they needed support in many areas, sometimes from abusive parents. We serve to show Christ’s love and our desires are that they can find a hope in their own lives, through knowing Christ as their savior. In the earlier years, our ministry was serving the Chinese (from China) families starting life in Singapore. Our home was like a little China, we open up our home to host seekers from cities like Shanghai, Beijing, Tianjin, Fujian … and as remote as Lanzhou (close to Mongolia). Many of these families are now settled in Singapore and serving fervently in our local church ministry in the Chinese congregation and are parents of their own children. Some of these children are now in our Youth ministry.

I have 3 grown up sons. My eldest son, Luzerne Cheng, will graduate from a Christian seminary and God willing, will plant a church in about 2 years time. He is currently the shepherd leader for the Young Adults in our church. My second son, Raynor Cheng, is following his brother’s footsteps and has just entered a Christian seminary in the first year. Raynor is now supporting a local church in Johor, Malaysia ( half an hour across from Singapore) through biblical studies needs for their young people ( students studying in UK universities with campuses in Johor ), a potential outreach to about 6000 students from overseas for a single academic year.

God has given me a new desire in my heart, that is to use my coaching experience with Biblical principles to help young people around me towards discovering God’s plans in their lives, through the final chapter of my life.

Describe your Life Coaching practice/ministry and how you incorporate biblical principles, as well as spiritual practices and disciplines in your coaching activities (e.g., prayer, the use of Scripture, meditation, worship, solitude, etc.)

As I work with several youths and young people in church, I use coaching and biblical truths to help them discover God’s plan for their lives.
Most of the cases that I worked with, are around hurt (mostly from parents), confidence to pick up from where they are (their identity), struggle with relationship ( siblings and parents ).

Scripture has revealed to us that the purpose in a man’s heart is like deep waters, but a man of understanding will help surface it up (Prov 20:5). As a coach, our role is to point them (draw it out) to the eternal truths of the word and have them discover for themselves God’s plan in their lives.

I would pray with them and point them to biblical truths that can speak to them directly and that they can find confidence in God’s sovereign truths in their lives.

My wife, Helen, is also very well aware of each and every coaching opportunity with any youths in our church.

I also disciple young men in our church and we meet every Thursday to study the Word and discover God’s purpose in their lives. For years, I have been using biblical life coaching in my discipleship of men as well. His word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path.
