Field Experience Description

I am a lead pastor, and I find myself in coaching situations daily. I speak twice each Sunday morning, I lead a small group study, a youth group study for teenagers, I do a live broadcast where we do coaching and mentoring online each week, and I run a leadership retreat every year for our church leadership team. I conduct monthly leadership team meetings, run an Enthusiasm Experience Retreat where I teach for 50+ hours, then I coach those participants monthly for 12 months after the retreat. I run a Mastery Retreat where I spend another 50 hours one-on-one and group coaching clients.

I got my first life coaching certification in 2006 and have been coaching, taking classes, and reading books and materials for 18 years.

Instructions

Please define/describe your thoughts and beliefs on the following questions.

Who is Jesus Christ to you?

Jesus Christ is the Son of God who came to this earth to teach us, be an example for us, and die on the cross for our sins. He physically rose from the dead and eventually ascended into heaven. One day he will return to take those who have accepted him and his forgiveness to heaven with him.

How does a person become Christian?

A person becomes Christian by accepting the free gift of forgiveness that Jesus offers to us through his death, burial, and resurrection. We accept that gift by putting our faith and trust in Jesus.

Describe your beliefs about the Bible:

The Bible is the perfect Word of God. It was written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. It is the ultimate source of truth about God, life, and myself.

Describe your beliefs about the Holy Spirit:

The Holy Spirit is the very Spirit of God that a person receives when they are born again. The Holy Spirit guides us and empowers us to live, talk, and make decisions in a godly way. The Holy Spirit gives followers of Jesus different gifts to use for God’s glory.

Briefly describe your personal faith testimony, your spiritual journey, and current walk with Christ:

Before deciding to follow Jesus as a teenager, I dealt with depression, feelings of inferiority, and felt like life had no purpose. At age 14, I decided to follow Jesus, and I was on fire for a while. Later on (in my junior high school years), I stopped following Jesus. I continued to go to church and was even active in my youth group, but I was not following Jesus. My sophomore year of high school, I came to a place where I knew I had to either take my faith seriously or give it up altogether. Fortunately, I made the right decision to start taking my faith seriously. It was at this point that my spiritual growth began.

By my senior year of high school, I felt God’s call to go into ministry. When I graduated, I went to Bible college to prepare for ministry and have been doing ministry since that time. Today I am continuing to grow in my faith, do ministry, and help others grow in their faith as well.

Describe your Life Coaching practice/ministry and how you incorporate biblical principles, as well as spiritual practices and disciplines in your coaching activities (e.g., prayer, the use of Scripture, meditation, worship, solitude, etc.)

In my coaching, I help people break out of the monotony of the mundane and the mediocre so they can break through to their enthusiasm zone. Leaning heavily on the original meaning of enthusiasm, “God in you or God inspired,” I define enthusiasm as a God-inspired fire ignited deep within your soul that drives you to never settle, live with passion, and turn the world upside down.

The foundation of my coaching comes from the Bible, especially Romans 12:11, “Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically.” I frequently encourage clients to practice what I call the foundational four of spiritual growth:
1. Read the Bible on a daily basis;
2. Talk to God through prayer on a daily basis;
3. Connect with other brothers and sisters in Christ, especially within the context of a local church;
4. Become a giver of your time, talent, and treasure.
