Field Experience Description | Between Septmber 12, 2023 and November 7, 2023, I completed 25 hours of life coaching with teen girls and parents. Teen girls occurred in person after school for 3 weeks as well as individual meetings with them. We have discussed friendships, relationships, and self image. We are currently on hiatus in November because of their sports schedules. I also began coaching a teen girl at the end of October and continue to coach her individually related to organization, study skills, and managing emotions. Further, I have coached this teen's parent via phone twice this month as it relates to being a support to her daughter's growth. I continue to coach both and will do so throughout the rest of 2023. I am also currently coaching a single mom and middle school teacher. We are addressing boundaries at school as it relates to not taking on too much, emotional balance with teens. And, we have shifted to coaching on homelife and growing healthier relationships with her children. We meet 1-2 times a week after school. We will continue to coach throughout November and then I will begin coaching her 11 year old daughter in December or January once a week. |

Instructions | Please define/describe your thoughts and beliefs on the following questions. |
Who is Jesus Christ to you? | Jesus Christ is my hope. He is the one who paid his life so that my sins would be forgiven and so that I might live. He is the son of the Father God. God designed me as I am and has created me for a purpose. Jesus was sent by God to walk this earth and to live as man. Our sins, our humanness led to his crucifixion. Jesus is whom I have a relationship with that includes prayer, worship, praise. He is my model of what love looks like, what forgiveness looks like and what sacrifice looks like. Honestly, without Jesus I am nothing. I will not live. |
How does a person become Christian? | A person becomes a Christian through their heart and mind choosing Jesus and choosing to believe and accept that He died on the cross for our sins even before we were born. It is not a series of acts. Becoming a Christian means we have died to ourselves and have chosen to live for Jesus. Honestly, so many people approach the idea of being a Christian in a way that is about how we look and act, versus how we grow our relationship with Jesus and live out our faith. The latter is what it is about and is what it means to choose Jesus every day. When we do that, we choose daily to live as a Christian. |
Describe your beliefs about the Bible: | I believe the Bible is the word of God. It is my source of truth, my source of hope. Both Old and New Testament have a place in our study of God's word. To know how to live today, we need to understand the God of yesterday. While the Bible has been translated into many different versions, the truth has not changed. We do not need to add to the Bible to give it meaning or authenticity. We do not need to change the Bible to make it relevant in our broken world. God's word speaks for itself. In today's world and in many churches, I see people dumbing down the importance of the Bible and of the Old Testament. I see people picking and choosing verses that make them feel good about their behaviors and choices. I see people telling others that we cannot bring others to Christ through the Bible because it turns people off. This all breaks my heart. I don't know faith without the word of God. I don't know truth without it. |
Describe your beliefs about the Holy Spirit: | I believe the Holy Spirit is part of the Trinity. The Holy Spirit was sent by God to us, in place of Jesus who would no longer walk the earth physically with us. The Holy Spirit is what convicts our hearts and makes us pause. It is what lives inside of us when we choose to follow Jesus. The Holy Spirit is a gift from God who did not want us to be alone. For many, and for me personally, the Holy Spirit is the peace, the comfort and the conviction I need as I live in this fallen world. He is the joy of knowing that I have a part of God living inside of me. |
Briefly describe your personal faith testimony, your spiritual journey, and current walk with Christ: | I grew up in a Catholic home with a father whom I knew loved Jesus as early as I could remember. Every Sunday I sat in church and every day I saw my dad praying the rosary. Later as I had grown into my own faith, I realized his praying the rosary was a part of his relationship with Jesus. It was his worship, his connection. As a teenager, I served in church early on and quickly grew a comfort with believing in God. As I went to college, for the first time I didn't attend church every Sunday and I began to figure out who exactly I was in Christ separate from this routine and separate from my home. I prayed, I served, I attended church off and on during my college years. And, when I met my future husband, I had an amazing confidence in knowing that God has sent a man of faith into my life. When I became a mom, one of my greatest blessings besides my children, was a group of women of faith where I truly dug deeper into my own faith, my own beliefs, and my own vision for a relationship with Jesus. I wanted something more familiar, less separate. I wanted something personal. In these early years of motherhood, I solidified for myself what it meant to have a personal, intimate relationship with Jesus. I guess if I had to describe my faith in one word it would be steadfast. I used to hear all these testimonies of other people and would see them in the deepest of pits reaching out to Jesus. Their stories of faith seemed to have more grit than my steadfast faith. But, I soon realized that steadfast faith has been a blessing to me. We have walked through heartache as a family with my sister and my niece. Steadfast faith helped me walk through this. I experienced post partum depression and steadfast faith saw me through. There have been many ups and down, stressors, and challenges in life and steadfast faith has kept my eyes focused on Jesus and kept me obedient to God. In fact, my steadfast faith has molded me into who I am today. Throughout my life I have participated in women's studies, couple studies. I have had seasons of individual study as well. Worship music is a huge part of my prayer life and healing. In my current walk with Christ, I attend a Christian church with my family, I serve in church and in the community because that is how I live out my faith. My schedule does not allow for me to attend an organized Bible study currently so I do my own studies online. I miss the fellowship of studying His word with women. I pray with several friends as well. I am a part of a Christian Women Ministry Accountability group too. My season of life has placed me in charge of my mom's finances and medical decisions since my dad's passing and her stroke. That means, my schedule is constantly changing. My quiet time varies day to day. Some days it is in the morning. Other days it is at lunch or before bed. While I long for a set time, this season is allowing me to ask God to show up, convict my heart to meet him in prayer, worship and in His word. I see it as an opportunity for a daily commitment to Him. |
Describe your Life Coaching practice/ministry and how you incorporate biblical principles, as well as spiritual practices and disciplines in your coaching activities (e.g., prayer, the use of Scripture, meditation, worship, solitude, etc.) | I currently am growing my online ministry where I serve parents and caring adults who raise or work with teens. I am creating some training series in best practices of youth development as it connects to parenting. I have a teen devotional I am editing as well as a mom's devotional related to praying through a season of child rebellion. My ministry growth has slowed because of my role with my mom this last year. However, I am entering a new season of growth as we wrap up this year and enter 2024. God is calling me to focus on my ministry. Part of that has been answering His call to incorporate life coaching for parents and teen girls specifically. I would tell you I have been life coaching parents and teens for years informally. Now, as I add it as a service within my ministry, I am incredibly excited. Here is how I am currently connecting faith to my coaching and will be in the future. Biblical principles: How I live my life is one way I model obedience, a key biblical principle. I am honest and talk about my faith. In fact, the clients I am currently coaching have all reached out to me because they have connected with my faith story. Another biblical principle I will incorporate, especially in my teen life coaching, is talking about sexuality and marriage. One of my goals with teen life coaching is helping them to see how God sees them, their value, their worth, their identity in Christ. This will connect to relationships and service both. I will also work with families and teens on the principle of honoring father and mother and explore how that can look for them. Spiritual practices and disciplines: I always ask for specific prayer requests of people I am coaching and in my ministry community. I also include prayer as we either open or close our session. I send Scripture to clients as well to read and pray. I have a playlist I share as well. I also have created different prayer prompts as well as prayer guides to help parents pray over their children. As my coaching grows, I envision incorporating more discussions on fasting, prayer, Bible reading and study, and worship with clients. I have a weekend planned in December to really explore how I will invite God fully into my coaching ministry and how I will honor Him through my work. Whether this is having a more intentional focus, resources to share, or just exploring new approaches, I do not know. But, I am excited to allow God to lead. |
